Heavy Vehicle Mechanic

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join our team. As a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy vehicles such as road rollers, JCBs, Caterpillars, and other construction equipment. Responsibilities:

1. Diagnostic Analysis: Perform thorough diagnostic tests to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy vehicles and equipment.
2. Repair and Maintenance: Conduct repairs, adjustments, and preventive maintenance tasks to ensure the safe and reliable operation of heavy vehicles, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic systems.
3. Parts Replacement: Replace faulty or worn-out parts and components, including bearings, seals, belts, hoses, and filters, using appropriate tools and techniques.
4. Welding and Fabrication: Perform welding and fabrication tasks as needed to repair damaged components and structures on heavy vehicles.
5. Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot complex mechanical and technical problems, utilizing technical manuals, diagnostic equipment, and experience-based knowledge.
6. Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards while performing repairs and maintenance activities, and follow proper procedures for handling hazardous materials.
7. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance tasks, parts inventory, and equipment history using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or other tracking tools.
8. Training and Supervision: Provide guidance and training to junior mechanics or apprentices, sharing knowledge and best practices for efficient and effective repair techniques.
9. Equipment Inspections: Conduct routine inspections and safety checks on heavy vehicles and equipment to identify potential issues and prevent breakdowns.
10. Emergency Repairs: Respond to emergency repair calls and breakdown situations promptly, troubleshoot problems on-site, and implement temporary solutions to minimize downtime.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, preferably in the construction or heavy equipment industry.
• Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in heavy vehicles and equipment.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and other components commonly found in heavy machinery.
• Certification or formal training in heavy equipment mechanics or a related field is preferred.
• Welding and fabrication skills are desirable.
• Ability to interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
• Physical strength and stamina to perform manual tasks and work in challenging environments.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record may be required.
